Caramel Blooming Apple Dessert

Updated: Jan 13

The ultimate dessert much like a pie but just a lot more fun!

This for whatever reason, last time I made I didn't take a picture of... definitely a must try. I'll try to do again soon to get pictures!

Ingredients

6 large Granny Smith Apples

1/2 cup Butter (melted)

1/2 cup Brown Sugar

1 teaspoon Korintje Cinnamon (1 ½ tsp regular cinnamon)

Your Favorite Vanilla Ice Cream

Caramel Sauce

½ cup Heavy Whipping Cream

½ cup Brown Sugar

1 Tablespoon Light Corn Syrup

1 teaspoon water

1 teaspoon vanilla

Pinch of Salt

Directions

Preheat oven to 400F.

I prefer not to peel apples because the peel helps hold it together when it softens but you can do it either way.

Use Apple Corer to core and Slice apples but don’t cut all the way through the bottom (the core itself will easily break off)

Place apples in Deep Dish Baker.

In small bowl mix Butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon and mix until well blended.  Spoon mixture over apples or use a basting brush to coat them well. (I reserve about a 1/3 for basting later)

Cover the deep dish baker and bake undisturbed 25 minutes.

While apples are baking, in a microwave safe dish, microwave Heavy Cream on high 30-40 seconds or until hot.  Set aside.

Combine brown sugar, corn syrup and water in a saucepan. Cook on medium high heat, stirring occasionally until well combined, reduce to low heat and cook until golden and bubbly. Slowly add warm cream (it will bubbly up dramatically as you do) continuously stir until smooth, then add vanilla and salt.  Let cool 5-10 minutes.

Remove apples from oven, baste again with mixture and bake another 5 mins or until apples are tender.

Plate apples, top with your favorite vanilla ice cream and drizzle with warm caramel!
